Welcome to my Man & Woman of the Year home page!

Dear Friends and Family,

I am asking for your help. As you all know, that is very hard for me to do. I am the one that everyone goes to for help, so it is humbling to be on the opposite end of the spectrum. The past two years have been the most interesting and emotional time of my life, to say the least.

Getting diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, and putting this disease in full remission, has taught me to put my priorities in order. I have realized how your life can change in the blink of an eye; that I am not invincible, and that maybe I have not been prioritizing what is most important in life: family and friends. Everyone always says that time flies and if you do not stop and look around, your life will pass you by. I believe that statement is true for all of us, and it is our turn to stop, look around, and put our priorities in check. I got a wake-up call first-hand; a lesson I will never forget.

I ask that you join me by making a contribution to my fundraising campaign. Each dollar I raise counts as one vote and the candidate who gets the most donations is named the local Man or Woman of the Year. I am raising money in honor of The Boy and Girl of the year, local children who are blood cancer survivors.  I truly hope to help find cures for blood cancers.  All donations are greatly appreciated. Your donation is tax deductible and will support The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society programs, including research, patient services, advocacy, public and professional education, and community services.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) funds lifesaving research contributing to major advances in the treatment of blood cancer and treatments of other types of cancer. Treatments such as chemotherapy and stem cell transplants have helped patients liver better, longer lives. New targeted therapies that are less toxic and kill cancer cells without harming normal tissue are providing drugs and procedures that improve the quality of life.

  • A donation of $1000 makes possible one-on-one conversations with health-care specialists who provide patients with information about their disease, treatment options, and helps prepare them with questions for their health-care team.
  • A donation of $100 helps supply laboratory researchers with supplies and materials critical to carrying out their search for cures.
  • A donation of $50 makes possible a Family Support group with a trained faciliator where comfort can be found and experiences can be shared among patients and family members.
  • A donation of $25 provides patients and their love ones with free booklets that contain up-to-date information on their disease and help them make informed decisions about their treatment options.

The goal I have set for our team is to raise over $150,000 for this worthy cause. We plan on achieving this through your support and by you helping us spread the word. There are two simple ways to help me reach my goal. You can click on the link "Please click here to make your donation" or you can mail a check to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, 1421 E. 12 Mile Road, Madison Heights, MI 48071. Please include Ryan LaFontaine - Man of the Year in the memo line.

We have tried to be creative with our fund raising efforts. We have planned events including a raffle where you could win twin Pontiac Solstice convertibles – as inspired by my one year old twin boys, Landry and Larkin, fraternal twins. Both cars are similar, yet different. We are also planning events ranging from A Night of Green Elegance Cocktail Party, Rolling in the Green Casino Night, Taking to the Green Golf Outing, and our grand finale, Dreaming in Green Classic Car Show. There will also be radio events put on by our friends at CBS Radio, and pin ups/ icons sold at each store to help our cause.  All donations must be received by May 14th.

I want to thank everyone for your generous support of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, one of the most respected non-profit organizations committed to finding a cure and giving life to those who have, are and will fight the tough challenges of blood cancers. Be sure to visit my Web site often to check on my progress and please ask your friends to support my efforts. For more information about LLS, please visit www.lls.org.
